This year, to keep you up to date with all the exciting happenings at Ivy Hill, I will be "tweeting" on a regular basis. You can either follow me on Twitter OR you can simply click the link below (the twitter symbol) to see my account, without even needing to join. (isn't twitter awesome?!) Looking forward to sharing all the great things happening at Ivy this year.
Today our 5th graders participated in a final Ivy Hill challenge, the tallest tower. The catch? They could only use one bag of marshmallows and one box of spaghetti. Students worked in small groups to build and after, the tallest (and STILL standing) was measured to be given the title of winner. This will be a new Ivy Hill tradition and each year students will compete to beat the record. Mr. Kaese and I were so impressed with the collaboration of our 5th graders and we know they will do well at Thomas. We expressed to all of them that they will always be Eagles and Ivy Hill will forever be their home. Congrats 5th graders! We know you will make Ivy proud next year.
Today the students enjoyed the 5th grade show, which as a spectacular production. The dedication of both Mrs. Opitz and the students was apparent in how well prepared they were and flawlessness of their performance. I'm sure I speak for many of us here at Ivy when I say how extremely proud we are of our 2015 class!
It's almost officially summer when Field Day happens! The students enjoyed a great day filled with games and lots of water (although luckily the rain stayed away!). A special thank you to Mr. Hengels and the PTA volunteers who made this event a success.
Ivy students enjoyed our "Garden Planting Day" in which they planted a variety of vegetables in grade level production boxes. The vegetables that were planted are as follows: tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, jalapeños, and cilantro. We will harvest them all in the fall to create a delicious treat for the students to enjoy. Can you guess what it will be? (Hint: It goes well with tortilla chips!)
We had a great turn out for our all school party! Students enjoyed a variety of activities such as karaoke, outdoor games, sticker/art table, dancing, snacks, and a photo booth. We hope the students had as much fun as the staff did!
It's no surprise that the third grade would present about a beloved recess game at Ivy, soccer! This musical not only shared the love of the game, but also taught the importance of teamwork. Way to go third graders!
Ivy Hill's Earth Day celebrations started with our annual walk to school event. Despite the spring cold, many of the students braved the weather and walked/biked to school. Additionally, a local organization, SWACC, presented to the Kindergarten classes about how to protect the Earth and what they can do to help the environment. A special thank you to the PTA for organizing great events this week as all of Ivy was able to give back to Mother Earth!
The fifth graders did a wonderful job with out wax museum! I learned many new facts about important individuals in our history and enjoyed seeing the students dressed up in character. It was a great event for all that attended.
So proud of all of our animals (aka second graders!). What a great show!
